Decking the Halls! Christmas Tablescape, Easy DIY Project, and a Sideboard Display December 9, 2011
Waaahooooo, today begins our first post of the holiday linky parties going on in blog land! Today we are linking up to The Lettered Cottage’s Table Decor and My Uncommon Slice of Suburbia’s Blogger Block Party 🙂 Better late than never, right?
Did you know that Home Depot gives away their Christmas tree clippings for free? Yeah, I didn’t either. But they do! I took full advantage of that and scored some FREEEEEEEEE decorations.
I used leftover burlap for some bows on the backs of the chairs and our new sled….
After expressing to my mom how I had been looking for a vintage Flexible Flyer, she tells me she’s had one in our attic for YEARS. Merry Christmas to me, FREE vintage sled. 🙂
I made the chalkboard from an old picture frame we picked up at an estate sale. It’s former self was white, gold, and something that had to do with horses. I like it much better in its current state. 🙂
I also bought a $5 poinsettia from Home Depot while I was scouring the Christmas tree clippings bin (we’ll see how long this lasts in our home). I put it in the vintage crock on our side board.
I put more clippings into a white ceramic pitcher and surrounding the candles in my birdcage display. Dollar store ornaments were mixed in to give some more texture.
Last year, I spray painted some of the 5 bazillion pine cones that fell from the tree in our yard a light gold to place on our $5 Christmas wreath, which is making its second appearance on our door. This year, I decided to spice up the table decor a bit and hang the extra pine cones from our chandelier with white satin ribbon. An easy DIY project to dress up your table in a different way!
I think it adds a nice touch 🙂 Simple, natural, and inexpensive. Just the way I like it.
Are your halls decked?

Your tablescapes are very pretty, understated and natural. I love what you did on your little side table, the scale, the ornament in the birds nest and the old crock, very nice. The natural greenery hanging from the chandelier is perfect!
I love it!
