Home // Door Hardware Update December 6, 2016

With the seasons changing, our home projects are slowing down quite a bit since we’re losing the ability to work outside. This means all building, painting, staining, etc is at a halt until next spring. This means we’re trying to finish up some of the bigger projects we’ve had waiting in the wing, and will tackle smaller projects during the winter when other things are on hold. One small project we got a head start on was updating our door hardware.
One of the details I knew I eventually wanted to change when we purchased this home was the hideous gold door knobs. It was a minor detail but one that’s bugged me daily because of how outdated I felt they looked. I also knew we needed new locks for the outside doors, and I wanted to stray away from the gold color. We are hoping to repaint the house and stain the deck next spring, so I wanted the hardware to be appropriately fitting the new look the house will get. We chose Schlage Hardware because it’s a brand we’ve used for quite some time now, and I was pleased to see the new variety of products they offer.
I knew I wanted a keyless entry because my keys makes me nuts when I’m carrying in two kids and bags of whatever I had to pick up at the store. I liked the idea of having a touchpad so I could unlock the door with a few button pushes. We chose Schlage’s Touch Keyless Touchscreen Deadbolt with Camelot Trim for the front door with a handle set for high impact. I LOVE how it looks, and the keypad isn’t too high-tech looking for me. This was also helpful because there are many times I’ll be picking up Landon from school and my mom arrives to my house before me. We have a spare key in a lock box, but the lock box can be tricky and I get annoyed having to show everyone how to use it. I love that I can simply give whoever is coming in the code and call it a day.
We kept the Camelot Trim style for the rest of the house, too. There are two sets of french doors leading out to our deck from the living room and playroom. We chose to use to use the Georgian Knob Camelot Trim Hall & Closet Lock Knob with a One Sided Deadbolt for these doors since we don’t use them nearly as much as our main entryways. The deadbolt system was important to us because of the kids. I like having that extra sense of security so they can’t open the door. I love how the black is contrasting to our white walls and matches the curtain rods!
We chose the Georgian Knob with Camelot Trim Bed & Bath Knob for the doors throughout our home. We formerly had handlebar fixtures, and it was really easy for Landon to open the doors. I also just didn’t like how they looked. These are much more aesthetically pleasing in our home, and again I love the contrast with all of our white walls and shiplap. I never thought doorknobs could be so pretty, but they really are!
A simple update using Schlage door hardware can have a high impact in any space! The electronic lock makes it a little easier for me to enter out home with a heck of a lot less fumbling for my keys (since we have a detached garage!). This low-investment, high impact project can be done in a day, too! It literally took my husband maybe a little over an hour to replace all the door hardware in our home. I love the new look! You can find Schlage door hardware in a variety of stores!
